MyShake is a free Android app developed by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley. It uses your phone[SQ]s accelerometer to detect earthquakes. When an earthquake is detected, the app reports the earthquake[SQ]s location and magnitude, contributing to a global earthquake early warning system. It[SQ]s essentially a citizen science project that uses the collective sensing power of many Android phones to improve earthquake detection and speed up emergency response times. Importantly, it does *not* provide personal earthquake alerts to the user; it only contributes data to the larger system.
